Hi Experts,

We used Operating System in order to use a computer. How about that Antivirus that we normally use? Is there a program or software that can check the capabilities and the performance of an antivirus?

Antivirus are sometimes free but has limited features. Most of it, require us to buy in order to avail its maximum performance. So how can we know if the one's we are buying is worth our money? How can we know if it is really capable of killing or can quarantine a virus? Do you have suggestions? Please send me some.

Thank you.

Hi Mdarifsadik,

You can verify the strength of an antivirus by considering what people that have used it say about it. There are a whole lot of anti viruses that people have used, but there is always that 'one' that a person would consider using because it did not let him down. For instance I trust AVG to be the best antivirus so far.

Since I started using it my PC has never been attacked by viruses and I use it everyday for accessing the internet and sharing documents. AVG detects some viruses that I have seen other Anti viruses not being capable to detect, hence making it my most trusted antivirus.

You could also consider what other people have to say about the antivirus they have used and how they have worked for them.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Lee Hung.

I can give you a small test that you can do in case you are not sure if your anti virus program is working fine or not. Open a note pad and paste this string:

  • X5O!P%@AP[4PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Save it as an exe or other format and as soon as you do a scan with your anti virus, it should be able to detect it. The file actually is a dummy virus which stimulates like a virus which is provided by EICAR for distribution as the “EICAR Standard Anti-Virus Test File. ” The file is a legitimate DOS program and produces sensible results when run. Do a full system scan to make your anti virus detect it.
