My computer broke down and I am left with this very old desktop computer, so I have no choice but to use it because I badly need to finish my project. When I tried to connect my computer to the router, it said that there is no connection.
It said something about an IP error. How can I check that? Is there supposed to be an IP address already?

How to check ip address in Windows 95
Hi!
Knowing your IP address is sometimes very much necessary specially while facing some network issues. In earlier versions of windows it was done through some commands however, windows has been a great GUI operating system since its inception. I have come up with a very easy suggestion for your query. You can know your IP address on windows 95 by following these steps.
-
Click on the start menu button.
-
Click run.
-
Write winipcfg.exe and press OK.
As soon as winipcfg.exe runs on a computer it will show you the IP address allotted to your computer.
Hope it works for you.

How to check ip address in Windows 95
Windows 95 is a very older version of Windows. Well its very easy to find the IP address of the PC, follow the simple steps. Just click on start menu and then click on Run windows. A new dialog box will appear ; type 'winipcfg' in this dialog box ; there you will find the default IP Address for your router or network adapter. The adapter address also shows the MAC address. You should also keep in your mind to take the IP address of your current network adapter because in windows 95 this command will show all the adapters and their IP Addresses. Hope this all will work for you.

That problem is probably with the configuration of the network adapter. Before a computer can connect to the internet, the machine itself needs to have its own IP address. If this is not configured, your machine won’t be able to connect to the internet. There are two ways to assign an IP address on your computer: DHCP and static.
The easiest way to assign an IP address on your computer is to use DHCP. When you use DHCP, it is your network or Internet Service Provider who will assign the IP address for you. If you are connected to a Wi-Fi router, it is the router who will create and assign an IP address for you based on the number of devices connected to the network.
To configure your system to use DHCP, click the network icon or LAN icon on the system tray to bring up the “Local Area Connection Status” dialog then click “Properties”. On the “Properties” window, in “General” tab, scroll down to the bottom of the list then select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and then click “Properties”.
On the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties” window, in “General” tab, select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and then “Obtain DNS server address automatically”. Click “OK” all throughout then restart the computer. This should fix the problem. If the problem continues, uninstall and reinstall the network adapter then repeat the steps.
