I already have my 3D model.

I’m trying to apply a gloss effect.

I need step by step instructions in applying gloss effect to materials using Vray for Sketchup.

How do I insert an external 3D image that I have and is there also a preview option to check the effect?

Here are the steps in adding refraction layer.

  • Click File then open “Chairs-Refraction-Original.skp”.
  • Choose the red chair from the above file and then select Materials Editor to change chair material.
  • Expand CHAIR-RED, right-click Refraction Layers and then select “Add new layer”. The Refraction layer will now be added in the items to the right of the window.
  • Since it is only the refraction layer that has been added, transparency isn’t yet visible. That’s because at this point it’s still set to black. In Diffuse, change the Transparency color to white instead of black to render 100% transparency to the material.
  • Next click Update Preview to see the effect of transparency discarding its original red color. Setting Transparency to 100% white will discard whatever color it is you set in the Diffuse color.
  • The best way to apply color to a refractive material is using Fog Color which is in the Refraction layer. Click Fog Color then change it to red which is the original Diffuse color of the object. After that, click Update Preview to see the effect of the Fog Color.
