Dear Donna,
After read your question I have sort out solution for your problem. Here I intimated some steps to solve your problem:
First: Switch on your computer.
Second: Make right click on your desktop and click on properties option. Then go to theme menu and brows your selected theme.
Third: After that click on to "Save as" option. Then select a suitable drive of your computer and make a Folder and rename it.
Fourth: At last save your theme into that folder for backup.
So whenever you need your favorite theme you just select it for your desktop theme.

You can do that in some simple steps.
First go to your desktop, right click and choose properties. There you will see a tab called “navigate to themes”, click it and a new window will open.
At that time, the selected theme will be your current theme. Click on “save as” to save the theme with a unique name.

Hello Donna, Windows XP themes are not as complicated as for other OS like even windows 7. With Windows XP its not really complicated to back up your theme.
In a case a modification was done by some body and you one to get back your old theme, just follow the steps below; – Right click on you desktop and chose properties – The box that appears directly on the themes tap and besides it is an option to save it. – Just click on the save and always try to save it on any other drive apart from your C drive so in that case you are guaranteed you cant loss it even after formatting.
