How do I share unused disk space on my home network?
Hi there Ricky B Barboza,
Unfortunately, you gave us way too less details about your operating system and the way your computers are connected to give you detailed instructions. however, sharing the hard disk space from one computer with other computers on the network is simple on every OS. Before sharing it, you may want to create a special partition that will be dedicated to sharing only. All you have to do is to right click on the disk, choose the sharing properties and define who can access the disk and with what permissions.
How do I share unused disk space on my home network?
If your home network has three computers and you want to share the disk space of one of the computers, you just need to share the drive. When an entire drive is shared, anyone on the network can connect to the computer of the shared drive to store files. First, you need to select which of the three computers will be used to share the disk space.
On that computer, start Windows Explorer then right-click the drive you want to share the disk space and select “Properties”. On the drive’s Properties window, go to “Sharing” tab then under “Network sharing and security” section, check “Share this folder on the network”. In the “Share name” field, enter a name.
Since you want to share the disk space, check “Allow network users to change my files” to allow users complete access to the drive. Click “Apply” then “OK”.
After this, the drive is now shared on the network. The next thing to do is to configure your network’s workgroup. Right-click “My Computer” and select “Properties”. Go to “Computer Name” tab and click “Change”.
On the Computer Name Changes window, under “Member of” section, select “Workgroup” and then enter a name for your workgroup.
Click “OK” when you are done and that’s it. Repeat these steps to rename the workgroup on the other two computers.
