A high school friend gave me his laptop after having bought a new one. I've been using it with a wired connection for a time and it was fine. However, when I brought the laptop to my university, I have no idea on how to turn on the wireless adapter in it! Can anybody help me. I have the older model – DELL Inspiron 2200 WiFi ready.

Namrider,

The wireless switch to turn the wireless on for your DELL Inspiron 220 is the Fn + F2 keys. Press and hold the Fn button and Press the F2 and release both buttons at the same time. You will see the 4-bar icons appear in the system tray beside the time. The bars will be gray in color if there is no connection and will turn green as soon as it gets connected successfully.

Happy Computing,

Hi namrider,

As you said your using dell laptop and you have problem in turning your wireless connection. First check whether the laptop has the wireless drivers or not Start < Control panel network and internet connections < network connections there you can find the wireless network connection if you have installed the wireless driver if you cannot find it then install the driver by using dell driver CD of your laptop. Once you install the driver you can find the network icon on your right side bottom corner in the quick launch toolbar. The option by which you can turn on the wireless by pressing the function key f2.

Hello Namrider,

To turn the wireless adapter on, the wireless driver has to be installed and working properly. You can check this from the device manager which you can access by right clicking on My Computer, and then choose properties. When the properties windows open, click on device manager, and then from the list of drivers, ensure the Wireless LAN adapter does not have a yellow or a red question mark.

That verified, look for the wireless adapter button on your laptop and turn it on. It is normally just above the keyboard, or on the sides close to the USB ports. Look for it and turn it ON. In the task bar of your computer look for the wireless assistant icon and turn the wireless LAN on from there too.

That is it, you should be able to connect to wireless network now.
