I woke up today only for a friend to send me a txt via WhatsApp informing me of the excitement of the new WhatsApp calling feature. I would like to know if there are flaws in this app feature as compared to other calling features of Viber, Tango, Skype etc. as well as a detailed guide on how to activate the WhatsApp calling feature? Thank you.

As of now, Android users can enable this feature in their phones but iOS users have to wait a couple of more weeks to enjoy this feature.
A third new tab has been appended apart from the Chats and Contacts tabs. When the "Calls" tab is opened, the call icon can be tapped which initiates the process of making a call to a person on the individual's contact list. This calling feature is available for Android users currently.

How do one activate the WhatsApp calling on his phone?
Some of the known glitches on the WhatsApp Calling Feature, is the fact that there are sometimes delays on the calls. This lag in the call can be confusing because of the time it takes for one person to hear what the other person is saying. When a call gets made inside a building or room, there is also an echo which plays back after some time. This echo, however, doesn’t occur when you make a call outside. If the phone network isn’t at its strongest from where you are making the call, these connectivity issues could result in calls being dropped.
For WhatsApp Calling Feature to work on your Android Smartphone, you will have to download the latest version – version 2.12.19. The update is already available for download in the Play Store in some regions, but you can also download the apk file from WhatsApp’s website.
To get started with using WhatsApp Calling Feature, you can follow the steps below:

Update WhatsApp to the latest version

Enable “Unknown Sources” in your security settings. To do this, tap on Settings > Security > Unknown Sources

Test if the app is working properly by asking someone who has the voice calling feature on their phone to call you

Once the call has been answered, three tabs will be present at the top of the interface for WhatsApp. These are Calls, Chats and Contacts.

To make a call, click on the Calls tab and tap on the phone icon. Pick a contact from your contact list to call this contact.
WhatsApp Calling Feature is only available for Android devices at this moment, so you can only call contacts that are using Android devices.
