How does F8 helps a computer?
When I turned on my computer and in 5 seconds of starting up the blue screen suddenly appears. So I will restart it to be able to fix it but nothing happen. I called my friend to help me and she told me that I should try to press F8 but she didn't told me what will happen after I press it. Just try it she said. So I pressed it and there's 8-9 options to choose from. I tried one of it but nothing happen. Can you help me fix my computer?

How does F8 helps a computer?
Hi Gemma,
I have the same issue with my friend’s computer, basically F8 key is used to make the computer reboot to what we call safe mode. Your friend might want to tell you to choose from the options after pressing F8 so you can go online. The blue screen that you are seeing is also an indicator that the computer might be infected by a virus or has software conflicts.
I have here some solution that might help you resolve the problem:
-
Restart the computer, while the computer is restarting back press F8 continuously until you see a black screen that has options that you can choose.
-
Select safe mode with networking using the arrow keys and hits Enter
-
A different screen will load up that is colored black and has the safe mode in it, don’t worry because the computer is just on a different screen.
-
Try opening up the internet explorer and try connecting to the internet. (if the issue of the computer is just virus or software conflicts you should be able to access the internet)
-
If you’re able to go online, the next step is to install malware bytes and have the computer scanned. Here are the steps on how to download it:
-
open 'internet explorer'
-
on the address bar or the http bar at the top, type: malwarebytes.org and then hit ENTER
-
click on the link for downloading it and install it on the computer
-
once it’s done installing, you will see an icon on the desktop screen, we need to open it up and look for 'full scan'and click it
-
This will scan the computer for 30 mins – 45 mins depending on the volume of programs installed on the computer.
-
Once it’s done scanning the computer, you will see all the viruses and spywares that are detected on the computer
-
Delete everything and restart the computer. If you will see the previous black screen when the computer starts up, select start windows normallyand hits enter.
If you will still see the blue screen, that means that the computer needs to be check by a computer technician for some softwares that might be damage and malfunctioning on the computer. Hopefully this will help you resolve the issue.
How does F8 helps a computer?
Hi Gemma,
The F8 function is used to run your computer in safe mode. Windows safe mode is a way of booting up the operating system and allows you to run administrative and diagnostic task. In running the safe mode the operating system only loads the minimum software required for the operating system to work. It is designed to let you troubleshoot your computer.
If you want your computer to run in safe mode, press F8 continuously right when windows starts, usually after you hear your computer beep after you reboot until you see a black screen that has options that you can choose. Choose the safe mode option that you want. Do whatever tasks you require, and when you are done, reboot to go back into normal mode.
In Windows Vista pressing F8 launches the start up repair recovery tool that can fix certain problems that might cause windows from starting correctly. It scans your computer for the problem and tries to fix it so your computer can start correctly.

The F8 function key on your keyboard works as a startup menu for the Microsoft Windows operating system. This menu is used, mostly, when troubleshooting a problem on the computer like when installing or uninstalling a program, booting problem, and other stuffs. In Microsoft Windows XP, this menu is called “Windows Advanced Options Menu.” When you’re on Microsoft Windows 7, it is called “Advanced Boot Options.”
The first three options in this menu will boot your computer in Safe Mode. Now, if you have a problem booting your computer, you should try first selecting the “Last Known Good Configuration” setting. To use the F8 function key, restart your computer then press F8 before the Windows logo appears right after the POST screen.
In “Advanced Boot Options,” scroll down and select “Last Known Good Configuration” then hit Enter. This will now boot your computer using the last known good settings that worked. See if this works. If this doesn’t work, shut down your computer and wait about 10 to 20 seconds. After this, start the computer and boot normally and see if it works.
