I want to know how to automatically lock my Windows 7 computer, when I’m out or when I’m away for a short period of time. We have kids in our house and they always play with the computer. I have work to do and I do not want them to turn the PC on and off.
This will be a waste of time. So I want to know if there is a way that I can lock it, while I’m not on my desk. Help!

This action is sometimes required, to keep your computer secure when you are away or not at your desk. This is possible with Windows 7 and we will be doing this by personalizing your screensaver settings. To get started please follow the steps below:
-
Right-click anywhere on your desktop and then select Personalize to open the Personalization settings.
-
Select Screen Saver.
-
Alternatively, you can access your Screen Saver settings without using your mouse, just hit the Win key on your keyboard ; then enter Screen saver on the search box and press Enter ; then select Change screen saver.
-
This will also open the screen saver settings box.
-
Select your desired Screen Saver, then check the box “On Resume, display the logon screen” when you exit your Screen Saver , then click Apply then OK.
-
After your selected length of time, your screen saver will appear as normal.
-
When you move your mouse or press any key on your keyboard, your logon screen will appear instead of directing to your desktop. If you have input a password on your User Account, enter it on the logon screen and your desktop will now appear.
To lock your computer without a screen saver:
-
Right-click anywhere on your desktop and then select, Personalize to open the Personalization settings.
-
Select None on the screen saver option then check the box On Resume, display the logon screen” and then click Apply then OK.
-
After your selected length of time, your logon screen will appear as normal.
-
Type your password ; then OK to go to your desktop.

To restrict your computer, you need to set a password.
To do this:
-
Go to Start>Control Panel
-
Select 'User Accounts and Family Safety' button in the dialog box that appears.
-
Enter a Username in the text box provided then select Administrator user type. This sets you as the only user to the computer.
-
To enforce that, create a password that is easy to remember but difficult to guess.
-
Click Create Account to complete registration.
-
When leaving the PC at the desk, always press Windows key+ L to log off, after which anyone must provide a password to access your PC.
