How many different kinds of VPN are commonly used in networking?
Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a private network that is present within an organisation. There are 3 types of VPN- Remote Access, Site to site – Intranet based, Site to site – Extranet based. Intranet VPNs are used to link headquarters, remote offices and ranch offices by using a shared network and dedicated infrastructure at a lower cost. Extranet VPNs link customers, suppliers or partners to corporate intranet by a shared network. Shiva Password Authentication protocol (SPAP) is an encrypted password authentication protocol. In this, remote access clients sends encrypted passwords to remote access servers using two-way encryption algorithm. Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) is an authentication framework which is used in point to point connection networks and also wireless networks. EAP is useful when we want use multiple authentication mechanisms.
