Actually there is no limit. The limit basically is how much your computer can take the extra pressure.
The more you open the tab , it will affect in your computer. Your computer can get  slowed down or can get sluggish.
If your RAM and virtual memory are good enough, then computer can perform better opening more tabs.
If you are a Firefox user, you can get a better solution by getting max tab extension. This extension will help you to know if you are crossing the set limit of the open tabs. This add on is really helpful and can make your browser run swiftly.
You can get max tab by going to this site
As far as I know and like what is said above in the previous post, there is no limit on the number of tabs that can be opened in the web browser. Literally, the stableness of the web browser to open as much tabs as it can really depends on the capacity of your computer.
This is because each time you open a new tab, it adds to the amount of memory consumed. And as you add more and more tabs, the amount of memory consumed gets bigger and sometimes it affects the speed and stability of the web browser. For computers with average RAM capacity, you will notice that the web browser gets slower and slower as you open more tabs.
Even if the other tabs are not being processed by the CPU, it still piles up in the memory. As the web browser gets slower and slower your computer becomes sluggish as well. But for computers with high specifications, this wouldn’t be a problem.
