How to Recover Offline Files from the Local Cache?

I have a Windows XP client where the user, being ignorant of such things, was working offline for quite a while. Trying to restore these files by copying them out of the offline files folder results in an error stating that: "Can't read from source file or disk." Is there any way that these files that seem to exist only in the local offline files cache to be recovered?

Hi Bradley,

Yes! You can recover offline files. Those offline files are in the directories located ""%systemroot""/CSC/%. Be sure to copy it to a new folder/location to be able to open the recovered files. When you have recovered your files reset the CSC cache. Click the link for a detailed instructions: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/230738/how-to-re-initialize-the-offline-files-cache-and-database-in-windows-x

Hope it helps,
