When upgrading to windows 7, your old files are saved in a folder named « Windows.old ».
If you want to delete it safely, you could simply run « Disk Cleanup » utility but make sure you no more need any file from « windows.old » folder because deleting it can not be undone !
Click on start button, than type « Disk Cleanup » in the search box.
Disk Cleanup will show on the list of results, simply click on it.
Sometimes you are asked to choose a drive, just click on the one you have installed windows on.
Once you run it, go to « Disk Cleanup » tab and click « cleanup system files » than check the box for « previous windows installation » and click « Delete files »
That’s it !
You can do a disk clean up when you upgraded you operating system directly from windows XP but I think what you should really do is install a fresh copy without the old operating system. Just backup all of your files from the old operating system and sometimes upgrading directly for XP causes some problems and it will also force you to do a clean install of the operating system. If you already did the disk clean up I still suggest that you do the clean install. But if you think it is running okay then you can just stick to it.
Hello Ali Tawab,
It is a pretty much simple procedure to remove the old file that belongs to the windows XP operating system that you have just switched from. Just use the following simple procedure:
There, you will have successfully removed the old installation of windows XP.
