First option, start computer in Safe Mode:
  1. Restart your computer.

  2. During boot up, continuously tap F8 until options appear.

  3. Select Safe mode with command prompt.

  4. Log in as Administrator.

  5. Go to Command Prompt.

  6. Enter the following: %systemroot%system32restorerstrui.exe

  7. Follow the instructions on restoring computer at an earlier state.

  8. Select a checkpoint where error is not yet encountered.

Another way is to use your Windows installer cd to access the Recovery Console:

  1. Insert windows cd.

  2. Restart your computer.

  3. Press DEL during start up.

  4. Enter BIOS then change the drive to boot up from cd.

  5. Enter Recovery Console when the windows setup appears.

  6. Access your windows drive and start the recovery process.

Hello Ed,

Performing System Restore in Windows XP is very easy. You just need to use the following procedure:

  1. On your computer, you will need to click on Start.
  2. And then click on Help and Support.
  3. After that you will need to type system restore in the Search box, and then press Enter.
  4. In the window that will open, you will need to check the suitable restore point to use.
  5. If you cannot find one, you will need to set it manually and then follow the rest of the instructions.
  6. You will need to let the process run without interruption for it to be successful.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Carl
