In our house we 3 have PC and 2 Laptop computers. I want to check on every Unit without going over externally. Any Idea how to run your own intranet dns to a single server?

If I understand well you want to connect all PC's into a network so you can check on other PC's from a single unit. This can be done with TCP/IP networking. Now this subject is a long discussion and I can't really explain to you in such a detail in this post. You need to learn about it.

Once you understand how that works you'll probably have an idea of how to connect your computers. If your computers have different operating systems you could run up to some issues. Then just Google up how to network OS to OS where OS is your computers OS's (operating systems). Like on Example how to network Windows 7 with Windows XP.
