I bought Linksys Wireless Router with 4 port switch. I use this for residential use only.
I don't know much about Wireless controllers so I decided to post here to ask some assistance and guides on how to set a security code in my Wireless router.
For all we know Security code is for a security barrier to protect and to prevent the outsiders and intruders who attempt to connect to the network.
All the techyv experts know about security matters so please feel free to post your knowledge about this issue. Precise instructions will be fine.
Thank You Y'all

How to set security code in a Wireless router
Hi John Carl,
-
First setup your router by placing the antennas and the cables. Connect an Ethernet cable from your internet modem to your router with the port sign "Internet" or "WAN". Then connect another Ethernet cable from your computer to any other available ports on your router. Plug the router to an electrical outlet then switch it on.
-
Once switched on, open your web browser (best would be to use Internet Explorer for this) and type http://192.168.1.1/ on the web address and enter.
You will be prompted for a username and password. Normally the combination of user pass would be:
-
user: Admin, pass: (leave blank)
-
user: admin, pass: (leave blank)
-
user: (leave blank), pass: admin
-
user: admin, pass: admin
After this go to "Internet Setup", and check your ISP for your connection type. It would normally be "PPPoE" or "DHCP". Set a name for your router to be identified in the SSID and also enter a password for your router in the WEP field usually found under the Security options. Also don't forget to enable the Wifi radio on option, to broadcast your WiFi.

How to set security code in a Wireless router
Hi John Carl,
I hope this may help to your problem.
HOW TO ACCESS AND USE THE COMMAND PROMPT
There are two ways to access the command prompt:
1. START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, COMMAND PROMPT
2. START, RUN cmd (WINDOWS VISTA = START, SEARCH, cmd
-
Once in the command prompt menu you'll want to type: Â ipconfig/all
-
Next the command prompt will show you a list of data for you network. In the list of data you will see an ip address (EXAMPLE 192.168.1.0).
-
 ACCESSING THE ROUTER
-
Once you have the ip address the hard part is done. Now, we want to access the internet and type the ip address in. Put the ip address in the URL search box. Next, if successful, you should come to the home page of your manufacturer of your specific router (EXAMPLE – Linksys). Refer to the manual that came with your specific router on the manufacturer password/user name to login to your network. Usually the User Name is "admin" or "password" and the password is either "admin" or "password." Sometimes these fields are left blank, but the best way to know is the user manual.
SETTING A PASSWORD
-
Once logged into the router you can access the administrative functions. Within the administrative functions you should see security settings. Within the security setting you will be able to change the username and password to login to the router.
