How do you set up a VPN system for a small organization? What tools do I need to make this happen? What hardware is required and what software do I need to buy to manage the VPN system? What is the advantage of having a VPN system in place and is it expensive to manage?

How to Set Up a VPN on Your Laptop

Setting up a VPN on your laptop for personal use is easy. You only need to sign up for an account on the website of the VPN provider and then download their VPN client. Normally, you need to pay if you want to subscribe to a VPN service because most of the VPN service providers I know don’t provide a free account.

Most of the subscriptions are on a monthly basis. Once your account is active, which happens after paying the subscription fee, you use the VPN client you downloaded to connect to their VPN service. Just enter your username and password on the client and it will connect you to the internet via Virtual Private Network.

It is the job of the client to check the status of your subscription each time you connect. There are VPNs that will assign you to a single IP address only. Each time you connect, you will use the same IP address but this IP address is different from the one you are actually using from your Internet Service Provider.

The VPN service hides your actual IP address. When you visit a website, the website sees a different IP address and most of the time you appear from a different location often from a different country. On the other hand, if you are planning to suggest on using VPN for your organization, I think you should contact the VPN service provider first.

They have their own way of setting it up for multiple computers and or multiple users and also they usually have discounts if it is already more than 1 user.
