I run Windows 7 ultimate on my Lenove G580 notebook system bit 32, HDD 500GB, RAM 2GB.  On certain occassions I do get this "access denied. You don't have access privileges to this drive" whenever I try to access my drive D.

Sometimes, I can go for days without encountering such an error message but when it happens, I am always forced to restart my computer so that I can have a successful access to my Drive D.  What could this error signify because sometimes it is so irritating that I have to reboot my system even if I had something urgent to access from the drive…please assist..

Hello,

This might be the issue of your user account. It might be corrupted and so this issue is appearing.

Here’s the way to create a new “Administrator” account.

1. Start an elevated Command Prompt.

2. Run the following command:
net user administrator /active:yes

Now, restart your PC and you’ll see a new user account named “Administrator”. Login into it, delete your existing account and create a new one.

But make sure to backup those data that’re stored in your account directory, like Documents, Downloads, and Desktop etc.

You can turn off the “Administrator” account by running this command in an elevated command prompt: “net user administrator /active:no”.

You can also use the technique described here for taking the ownership of drive D.
