Hello buddies,
Last night I installed a clean installation of windows 7 professional 64bit. I bought it from a nearer software shop. It was running quite well. No problem I found except the recent programs list on the start menu. The only programs that ever show there are Internet Explorer, Calculator, etc.
In the start menu properties, the "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start Menu" box is checked, but the programs recent programs are not showing properly. I like windows 7 for its crystal clear display, graphical elements and some special features. But I am having a problem with that recent programs list. It’s giving me so much irritation. Has anybody else experienced this problem, or maybe have a solution to it? I will be very grateful.
Thanks for your time.

How to solve the Problem with Recent Programs list?
Well Suther,
You have done the first step. But Checking the "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start Menu” or "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the task bar" is not enough for your requirement. There are other things to consider about. On the left side top of the start menu option dialog box you will see a customize button and you have to click this. And it will popup the Customize Start Menu dialog box. On here you have make necessary changes according to your wish. As you see some items default ticked as Don’t Display this item. So you can checked them as Display as a link or Display as menu.
And also you can set the "Number of recent programs to display" and "Number of recent items to display in Jump Lists" from here.
Still the program you need to appear is doesn't showing off, find the shortcut and drag and drop it in to the list. Or else you can paste it into the C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu. If you want to be user specific paste it into the C:Users<user name>AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu. And also you can pin that item to the start menu.
As a technique, try to open the programs from Start menu > All Programs. As this will increases the rank of frequent use, you can force a program to appear in the recent program list. Sometimes Windows doesn’t counts 64 bit programs in frequently used statistics. Reason behind this is it counts the programs in the Program Files x86 and not the Program Files.
How to solve the Problem with Recent Programs list?
Suther,
Click on Customize and select how many recent programs you want listed in the Start menu list. The maximum is 10. Once this is done, click Apply and OK.
Problem solved.
