It is a frequent error among the WinRAR users.

It occurs due to corrupted or missing files in the archive.

There are several ways to overcome this box:

  1. Press ALT + R in the Winrar program. This command will open a Repair Prompt. You can go step by step. It will fix the fault.
  2. You can use other tools to recover the RAR files. YODOT is one of them.

That dialog box you see in WinRAR when extracting an archive is also the same with other file compressors like 7-Zip and WinZip. That dialog box is important in the program because it lets you know about the progress of the compression of the archive or the extraction of the files. It also helps you know if an error just happened while the program is processing your files.

For advanced users like me, I find it useful when processing my files. If you are processing multiple files, it lets you know how many files have been processed and how many are left. If you are extracting an archive, it lets you know the progress of the extraction and if there are corrupt files that can’t be extracted.

If you want an alternative to WinRAR that is completely free, try 7-Zip. I no longer use WinRAR and I never used WinZip. I use 7-Zip.
