I am a user of hp Elite book, previously I had 8040 and now I am using 8070. The laptop works fine and I love its functionalities but their is this one problem which is starting to happen more often now. When the laptop displays the home screen and asks me to enter my password, sometimes it takes a very long time to log in and after it log in an error message is generated on the bottom right corner which says that a few devices failed to communicate. I don' t know what that means. When such a login occurs there is no desktop background either as in the normal case, their is the background that I have already set. Whenever this happens, I have to restart my laptop

The length or the duration of your startup after logging in to your account depends on the number of startup items enabled in Microsoft Windows. Obviously, if you have many applications that start with Windows therefore after logging in you have to wait until all programs have started and the more startup programs you have, the longer you wait.
I don’t know what operating system you are using but here’s how to check the startup items in Windows XP. Click Start and then Run. Type without quotes “msconfig” then hit Enter. This opens the System Configuration Utility window. Here, select Startup tab and then check the items on the list. See image.
These are the items or the programs that run with Windows after you log in. If you have so many items on the list, you probably need to remove some that are not needed. Uncheck the items that you think are not needed and then click OK when you are finished. Restart your computer and check if your machine still consumes time to start after logging in.
You should also check the performance of your computer. If you think your machine is already slow then I guess it is time to defrag your hard drive. You can use the Windows Disk Defragmenter that comes with Microsoft Windows. It will improve the performance of your machine.
