How do I connect my HP LaserJet 3100 on my computer? I’m using Windows Vista and when I plug the printer on the computer, it never recognizes the printer. What should I do?

First thing comes first. You need to download the latest version of this printer driver for windows vista in the official website of HP. You have two options, install it automatically using the setup.exe indicated in the downloaded driver or mapping the directory of the driver in the update driver wizard in the device manager. If problems encountered after the installation of the latest driver, try to connect the printer cable to different usb port.  If problem still exists, you need to contact hp for the repair of your printer.Kindly refer to the contact details of HP's technical support in their official website. Or send me a PM if you want me to help.

If you are using Microsoft Windows Vista and it cannot recognize your printer, make sure it is connected properly to your computer and the required software is installed. This printer model connects to the computer via the parallel port or the printer port and it doesn’t have USB connectivity.

Unfortunately, there is no driver available for Microsoft Windows Vista in the HP website if you are using this operating system. The driver versions you can download from the HP website are designed only for Linux, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows XP (32-bit only). But according to CNET.com, the HP LaserJet 3100 printer is Microsoft Windows Vista certified.

That probably means the driver designed for Windows Vista is included in the setup CD that comes with the printer when you bought it. You need to install that HP LaserJet 3100 software from the CD on your Windows Vista so your computer can recognize the printer and fix the problem. Your computer will not be able to detect or recognize the printer when its driver is not installed.
