I have a HP Pavilion laptop, not more than 2 years old. I was plying loud music using VLC media player, full volume from the internal speakers, no connection to external speaker. I left the room for a while and when i came back i noticed the speakers we not producing any sound. I don’t share a room with anyone and i locked the door while moving out, nobody had interfered with the computer. I thought the computer had hanged up so i restarted it and added the same music folder to the play list. It played the music but with a very low volume, i checked the system volume, it was full, the VLC player volume was also at its maximum. What came in my mind was that the computer’s speakers had blown. I tried head phones to find out if the same problem could affect it, the sound was also low. Though it produces different sounds depending on what is played. For instance advertisements sounds are much higher than the normal video files. I checked the sound drivers and they are both working well, nothing strange. I also confirmed that; -The sound card is in a good working condition. -The speakers are properly connected to the power supply Any ideas of what might be the problem ??

If your laptop’s speakers are not damaged and sounds from advertisement are louder than the music playback then there might be problem in your volume settings. Assuming you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, the volume for VLC Media Player might be reduced in the volume mixer options. To check it click on the Mixer option under the Volume control accessed from the taskbar. In the volume mixer window, check if the volume for VLC is reduced and increase it again.

If it is not the case, then try reinstalling or updating the sound driver. You can download updated drivers from here, https://support.hp.com/gb-en/.

Also, if anything doesn’t help, try taking the laptop to your local HP service center to check if the speaker connections are lost or damaged inside the laptop. Or if the sound chip in the laptop is damaged.

Check whether the speakers have been disabled. Right click on my computer and select on properties – select on device manager – if the sound, audio and game controllers are disabled, right click on it and to enable the sound, audio and game controller. Two check on the speaker audio speakers are mute. You can do this by going to start – control panel – audio control panel – audio control panel -Brings to speakers and headphones – select on the setting and make sure everything is unmute
