I currently own an HP Pavilion laptop (Artist Edition) using a NVIDIA Chipset. Recently while I booted up the system, the LCD screen stays black but still you can hear the start-up sounds, I left it running for a while and the screen returns back to normal. What do you think about this problem? Is it the NVIDIA chipset going bad or the LCD screen? Is it possible to replace the chipset?
Here is the photo of the said laptop.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Dear Jhonsmith,
For the LCD screen, you can check it easily by connecting the display (see the image below) to a monitor (desktop) which is working properly. If then the monitor screen working properly definitely the problem is with your chip set. If the monitor screen is also having the same problem you should change you LCD.
Plug your monitor VGA cable to the port in the laptop
For the chip set, using the above method you can get to know whether the chip set or the LCD. If the problem is with the chip set you may change the chip set. Better if you can go to an expert and repair the chip set.

Hello there, Sometime when you left your laptop open for a long time your laptop turn to standby mode, then when you booted up you only hear the welcome sounds but you can't see anything. Some of laptops encountered just like that what you encountered because when it is left open for long time it comes to standby mode, then the  resolution will change that’s why you only hear the sound when you boot it up. I also encountered that kind of problem then I only connect the vga out to the other monitor then I see the display again, then I disconnect it from that said monitor, I boot up again I see the display.Â
Maybe the backlight of your laptop is not working so that you can't see anything on it. Or maybe the lcd is not working if that was happen replace a new lcd.
Hope it helps you…
