Friends I am in a real fix. I updated my Outlook Express from 5.x to 6.x. Now whenever I try to start up Outlook Express 6, the following message appears:

“Msimn caused an exception C0000006h in module Directdb.dll”

I am using Windows XP with 512 RAM and 2.6 GB Processor.

I have searched alot on Google but still found no solution to my this problem. Anyone please have any suggestions to solve this problem?

First of all you have to find out the folders that contain the messages.ods file and the .dbx files:
Click on start and go to search and type messages.ods *.dbx, and then click Find Now.
Now transfer the Messages.ods file into the same folder that contains the .dbx files.

Now you have to delete the ConvertedToDBX value in the registry by using Registry editor:
Click Start and type “Regedt32” in Run and hit enter.
Double click HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder, expand until {clsid} folder shown.
Now expand the Software folder, then the Microsoft folder until Outlook Express folder.
Expand the 5.0 folder, and then click the “ConvertedToDBX” value.
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Now quit Registry Editor and restart your computer.

The problem is a message store corruption. Outlook Express shows this error when Messages.ods file’s location is changed from the specified folder in Windows registry.
Outlook Express crashes when composing messages so go to Windows update and download the latest and get the latest IE security patch and that should fix it.

Or you can follow these steps to cover this issue….
Open search menu in Windows and type “Messages.ods”.
Copy that file to the same folder which includes .dbx files.
Now click run from the start menu and type “Regedit” in run dialog box.
Registry edit dialog box will appear. Double click on “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” to expand it.
Double click on identities and enhance its class ID.
Double click on software under class ID and double click on Microsoft.
Now double click on Outlook Express and select 6.0 Outlook Express.
Select the entry “ConvertedToDBX” from the right pane of folder and select delete from the shortcut menu.
Now start your computer again to make changes effective.

That’s all you need to fix the errors. Hope will take you out from your problem.
