I'm using Windows 32-bit version. Recently, my computer is acting super crazy. It got slowdown and now none of the MS office files is opened. When I double click them, the sand clock comes for like 1 minute and then it goes away without opening the file.

Try installing an anti-virus, you can try avast works well with me and you can get a free basic protection from them, or you can try Avira or Avg. And if that doesn't help try restoring your computer to an earlier time by going to system restore (if you have windows 7 just write it in the search bar when you press the start windows button on the bottom left corner, and the Windows XP go to control panel, there you can find it.

If that likewise doesn't help them if you have a windows 7 and if you created from beforehand a system repair disk and a system image, then you can repair it as new, that is why it's good to do it from before. If you don't have that then I guess you'll just have to give it in to fix or you can just take off the important information you have on the computer (I would do that before doing any of the above) and reinstall windows or just update windows to a newer version.

Maureen,

Your computer might be infected by a malicious software. Have you tried to update your antivirus and then run it? You need to constantly check for vicious software and you also need to update your antivirus or antimalware regularly.

Your computer being slow could also be the result of installing so many software in it. Browse through your computer, and uninstall any software that you might not be using. It is normally thought that having so many games installed in your computer could cause the system to become slow in performance.

It could also be that you do not have enough space in your computer. Delete the files you are not using, and empty your recycle bin. This should help your hard drive to function effectively. You should also run a disk defragmenter to free up some space in your hard disk. A good software that has a combination of such measures is tune up utilities, but windows have a defrag tool. Just go to start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter.

go to start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter

Your registry might also need to be fixed. Look for a software that will fix your registry, or better yet defragment it if necessary.

The drivers you are using might also be in conflict with one another. You can check this by running your computer in safe mode. Then going to the control panel > system > devices > all devices and check if there is any with a red exclamation mark. This means that there is a driver conflict. You will have to uninstall one, or update it.

Add more memory to your computer. Get some more RAM and some extra hard disk space.

Thank you Nicky Kot for all the solutions. I tried almost everything: I updated and scanned my computer, deleted some unused programs, deleted some files, checked the registry, and checked the drivers.

I won't go into details but these obviously helped! I can now use my MS word and my computer is almost back to its original speed. Many thanks!

Thank you TechyV!
