Hey Gurus,
I got this error when I exit a word document I was working on. It is an important document so I need support urgently.
I set it to default save as 97- 2003 version because I needed that version for college purposes.
When I finish sending a report of the error, MS word opens again but with a new blank doc.
Has any of you guys come across this before?
If yes then I would really appreciate any help you give me. I have placed a screenshot of the error below this.

Hello,
First you need to have your computer checked and scanned for any online virtues that may have entered your system without your knowledge. There are those viruses and worms that eat up or destroy your documents because they are hidden recurring viruses that open up whenever you open a certain program like ms word thus whenever you open they destroy your documents. Its best you always have an anti-virus installed and set it to update automatically whenever you connect to the internet .

To fix this issue, remove all the contents on this location: C:Documents and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftTemplates. There are corrupted normal dot files that's why you are getting this error. Or to ensure there will be no more problems, uninstall MS Word completely and then re-install it back.

The problem can also be caused by enabling Add-ins.
You can open word in safe mode and then try to work on a new document in safe mode. Alternatively if you had saved the document try to open it and see if it opens in safe mode.
To open word in safe mode:

Click on start programs<All programs<Accessories<Run<Type winword{space}/safe and click on Ok.

To open the word document.

Click on File<Open<Browse to the location where the file is saved,highlight the file and click on Open and check if it opens.

If it does,then enabled Add-ins must have been the issue,therefore you need to disable them. To disable.

Click on File<Options<Add-ins<Click on 'GO' beside Manage – COM Add-ins and Uncheck Add-ins and Click OK.Â
Try opening the word document the normal way.
