My wife and I have a small garden at home. We'd like to make a design for it. Do you know of any such free computer program we could download?

Hi Hunter,

Using garden design software is a great way of trying out different landscape designs and plants combination before trying it out in your garden. You will be able to see and experiment on different plants combinations on the garden. Good thing is, there are numerous garden design software which are free for download. Hello, Hunter!

I found two sites which offer free landscaping and design. Both sites offer free services and have good reviews. 

1. Plan-a-Garden – http://www.bhg.com/gardening/design/nature-lovers/welcome-to-plan-a-garden/

This site would ask you to register first, which is easy enough. When you are registered you can now use an online application that would help you design your garden from the smallest rock to maybe a gazebo. The application interface will look like this:

    

 

Overall it's very user friendly and the interface is very easy to navigate.

2. SmartDraw – http://www.smartdraw.com

This site offers free download of a software that has both premade templates for your garden design as well as new ones that you can design yourself. The design templates look like this:

 

The advantages of this one is that it gives you input and ideas whether you might like it or not as well a more professional layout when you begin your garden design.
