But here you did not mention that your computer is using in a LAN under domain or using at home as a single computer. If it is under domain then please follow solution one and if it is not under domain then follow solution two.
Solution one:
Please inform your domain administrator that you want to change your user password.
Solution two:
Please note all windows computer have default administrator account.
Now press power button on your computer then press F8 button then select safe mode. Then your computer will ask you to open administrator account. Now select administrator and open your computer and reset your user password.

How can I recover my Windows Password?
If your Windows XP system user account is password protected and you happen to forget the password, you can use administrator rights and privileges to access your system.
This is how it works; each time Windows XP is installed on a system, a default account known as “Administrator” is created – by default, the administrator account is not protected with a password. Consequently, when you purchase a known brand PC such as HP, Sony, or Dell, it is possible to log in to your system when you forget your user account password – simply login through the unprotected Administrator Account.
Practical Steps:
Step 1: Switch on your computer by pressing the power button.
Step 2: Strike the F8 key to select safe mode option, then hit the enter key.
Step 3: As your computer runs in safe mode, go to your control panel icon and double-click user accounts. This action would usher in the Administrator Account – you can create a new user name here, as well as new password.
Step 4: Restart your computer so that you can log in with the new account you’ve just created.
You may also use certain software to break into your Windows XP password protected system – one of the software programs I found on the web is the Kon Boot – visit the website to learn how the software works.
