RAM memory sticks are used by computers to store data either temporarily or permanently. Earlier versions of computers uses quite lower RAM capacity because systems before only uses DOS or Disk Operating System to operate a computer.
Unlike now, different versions of Windows are available and require much larger RAM capacity. Before RAM memory sticks are available in 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, and 128 MB and comes in 30 pins, 32 pins, and 72 pins type. But now, you can buy them in 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB or maybe higher capacities.
There are different types of RAM. SRAM or Static Random-Access Memory is the fast type of memory but has a lower or less capacity. DRAM or Dynamic Random-Access Memory is the slower type but has a much larger capacity compared to SRAM.
SIMM or Single In-Line Memory Module is a type of memory module that physically contains RAM (Random-Access Memory) only on one side of the memory card. This is used in computers from early 1980s to late 1990s.
DIMM or Dual In-Line Memory Module is a type of memory module that physically contains RAM on both sides of the card. This is the most predominant form of memory module today.
