I would like to know about some commonly used download managers

What is a download manager? What would I need it for? Please let me know the commonly used download managers. Are they safe to be installed on my system in terms of being malware-adware free? Can I install it on Windows or would I need Linux for this? Is there anything else that I should know before I install this on my system?

I would like to know about some commonly used download managers

A download manager is an application used to download and organise

the downloaded files from internet. It helps to accelarate the 

download speed and we can also download multiple files using a

download manager.You can download a internet manager on both the

windows and linux platforms. As all the softwares these are also 

affected by malwares but just try IDM, it's the best download manager
