I want to install a new 500 GB hard drive on a Dell Inspiron 1721, but my worry is that after installation do I have to put a new OS in the PC?
With this new hard drive installation, will my PC function properly? Â
Kindly assist me as I don’t want to mess up.
Installation of new hard drive
Hi,
Your computer should be able to function properly, provided the hard drive is working and it has at least the operating installed on it. If you bought the hard drive from a retail store, or from Dell after point of sale, chances are the hard drive is blank and has nothing in it. So you need to install an operating system on it and you need to reinstall all the programs that you had in your old hard drive.
You can actually just image your old computer's content (you might want to check out Norton Ghost for this) and have the image loaded on the new hard drive after you install it on the computer.
Thank you. Hope it helps with your current predicament.

Installation of new hard drive
Hello,
You need to back up mainly your records before you twitch connections. If you decide to reinstall Windows it is good, but if you don’t reinstall the windows you must duplicate the OS of your old hard drive on to your new hard drive.
