I got a copy of AVG anti-virus from this link https://www.avg.com/en-ww/free-antivirus-download. I took a screen shot of the error dialog and attached it here. Did I download the wrong file?

Installation problem of AVG Free Anti virus
Hello Marianne,
To perform the AVG antivirus installation you will need to make sure that you have an active and strong connection to the internet. The installer needs to download installation files from the internet and install them on your computer. You should therefore do the following:
-
Check your internet connection status. Try restarting the router if the internet is slow.
-
You can as well just try restarting the computer and see if that will resolve the issue.
-
If you are using wireless network to connect to the internet then you should try looking for a spot that has got a strong signal for high internet connection.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Carl

AVG setup error driver installation failed
Installation problem of AVG Free Anti virus
That error doesn’t look like the problem is coming from the installer you downloaded. It seems there is a problem with your operating system’s Windows Installer service. Like what the error says, you cannot run an installation that requires accessing the Microsoft Windows Installer or the Windows Installer Service if you are in Safe Mode. When you’re in Safe Mode, the Windows Installer Service is not running.
Installing programs in Safe Mode are usually done when troubleshooting a problem. If you are in Safe Mode, restart your computer and boot Microsoft Windows normally. Restart the installation after booting your computer and then see if it works. If this doesn’t work even if you’re in Normal mode, try downloading the latest from AVG Free Antivirus.
The latest version at the moment supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. If AVG still won’t install, update your operating system to the latest Service Pack to update the Windows Installer. For Microsoft Windows XP, download Windows XP Service Pack 3. This is the latest and last Service Pack update for Microsoft Windows XP.
For Microsoft Windows Vista, download Windows Vista Service Pack 2. This is the latest and last Service Pack update for Microsoft Windows Vista. For Microsoft Windows 7, download Windows 7 Service Pack 1. This is the latest and only Service Pack update for Microsoft Windows 7. For Microsoft Windows 8, you should update to Windows 8.1.
