How to create IRC Accounts?

I am not so familiar with IRC. I have to work on it for my next project. So I need to figure it out quickly. As far as I know, it is a chat system based on the internet. But I am confused about creating accounts.

Where do I start?

How to create IRC Accounts?

You don’t actually have to create an account. You can directly go to the chat room (channel we say) by installing a client software.

How to create IRC Accounts?

There are a lot of options. You can use MIRC (proprietary).

Xchat, Silverex, Miranda, Chatzilla etc.

Just download them and follow the instructions. I prefer to use xchat. It's a free and cross platform.

How to create IRC Accounts?

When you run the xchat program, you shall see a screen probably like this:

Set a nickname (this will be your name appearing to other users); from the network list select the network ; When you are connected you shall be prompted for the channel name ; you can enter it there.

A lot more if you want and none if you don’t want.

IRC has its own standard of commands and other things. You can look at almost all the basic functions here.
