Hello,

One of the straight forward possibilities for this error is, if Irfanview is running with a Unicode plugin deactivated and gets a file name consisting of any “non-_ASCII” characters.

But if you cannot open this file in any of the other photo viewing /editing applications, that means that Irfan view is doing just fine and problem is with the image file itself. JPEG file consists of two parts: one is File Header and the second part contains data. This error point that the file headers of these files are having problem or corrupt for sorting this out, you can go for various Picture recovery tools. I will strongly recommend you to have a habit of creating a System Restore Points, before installing any software, to avoid these types of mis-happenings with your valuable data.

Hope this will help you.

If it is just an ordinary image file or jpg file, I don’t see any problem why it can’t be opened using an image editor. If opening the file using IrfanView throws an error, try using a different program to open the file. Since it is just an ordinary jpg file, try using Microsoft Paint. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and then select Paint.

It can open a simple jpg file. If your file is a valid jpg file then Microsoft Paint should be able to open it. If you are using an old version of IrfanView, you probably want to update to the latest. Download and install IrfanView 4.38. It supports all versions of Microsoft Windows both x86 and x64.

In case you still can’t open the file even when using the latest version, try renaming the file and use a simple name and then try again.
