Window Defender, the anti-malware software, was a free anti spyware program released by Microsoft for Windows. It is a shield which monitors several areas of Windows for anomalies in real time checking for spyware. Microsoft Security Essentials superseded it as an antivirus product widening its horizon for protection against malware.
It can be integrated to Microsoft Edge browser so to prevent the downloading of malware. It is easy to use and apply when the PC is offline. But, tests showed that it is better to use a paid anti-virus software or even good third-party free antivirus instead of the Defender. Windows Defender has a poor record in malware-blocking test especially when you are downloading something from the internet.
