Issue with Altera Software and Quartus II

The error you are receiving when installing the Altera software occurs if the case where the destination directory contains a previous installation of the software. What you will need to do therefore is to uninstall the previous version of the software before you start the installation of the new version. As an alternative, you can choose to  specify another destination directory for installing the software instead of the one that already has the older version. So just figure out what you can do from the options I have given and after that the error that you are getting now should not occur again.

If this happens when installing a new version, the previous uninstall probably didn’t finish successfully. To fix this, install the previous version again. Once installed, download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install it. Once installed, start Revo Uninstaller then select your Quartus II software among the applications and click “Uninstall”. Follow the normal uninstall process.

When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and delete everything it finds. This removes everything the program created on your computer. When it is finished, close Revo Uninstaller then install the new version again. See if this works. But, on the other hand, if you also cannot install the previous version, download the free trial of Revo Uninstaller Pro and install it.

Once installed, start Revo Uninstaller Pro then click “Forced Uninstall”. In “Forced Uninstall” window, click “Browse for” and select “Folder”. In “Browse for Folder” dialog, navigate to the installation folder of the Quartus II software, select the “Quartus II” folder, and click “OK”. Click “Next” then wait for scanning to complete. When scan is complete, delete all items found except for the “C:\Program Files” item.

When it is finished, close Revo Uninstaller then restart the computer. After booting, install the new version again then see if it works.
