Issue with Atheros AR9285 wireless network adapter
Hi Stefen_UK,
Wireless connection often encountered intermittent wireless connection. It disconnects most of the time and or you might encounter slow speed.
In your case, Atheros AR9285 might not install properly since you have re-format/re-install your laptop Vaio VPCW216AG.
Here are the few steps to install/update your wireless adapter/built-in wireless card.
Go to Start, Control Panel, System and Security, On the System section, Click on Device Manager and look for Network Adapters. Expand the network adapter and in this page, the wireless adapter /card will be shown.
Enabled is usually the status if functioning and a yellow triangle or red X mark if not.
Right Click and select update driver of your Atheros AR9285 adapter and follow the steps.
Once the software is installed properly, check the list of wireless network name/SSID detected located at the system tray of your screen. Choose your own network name/SSID, Click the connect button, type your WEP key and this should fix the problem.
If not, verify with your Internet Service Provider for further help.

Visit Sony’s website and download the WLAN card driver from there. Chances are your WLAN card driver right now that’s installed in your computer is a native driver from Windows which does not work properly with the device. If everything looks fine as far as the drivers, make sure you have the correct network key on your computer. If it’s the wrong key you will really have a problem connecting. Make sure the profile saved on your computer reflects the settings saved on the network. Try to change the wireless channel on the router as well as it may be experiencing interference.
