Hi,
I have a laptop “Dell Vostro – 1500 “. I have used it for a couple of years. Recently some of the keys 'CTRL'/'ALT/shift is not working. I can’t figure out what’s wrong. It was working fine even yesterday. Do I need to change my laptop keyboard? Or is it just plain Windows problem? Please help.

If your keyboard worked recently, then I guess its a hardware problem. You better search for a new keyboard for the model.

Thanks a lot. Yes it is a keyboard problem. So I am going to buy a new one. But is it possible to install it at home?

Yes, you can easily replace your keyboard at home. I'll be describing the keyboard replacement procedure here. Precautions:
1. Disconnect power cable.
2. Disconnect Battery.
Replacement procedure:
1. Move your lid back as much as possible like the picture below.
2. Notice the keyboard latch notch.
3. Gently place a flat headed screw driver or a plastic rod on the notch.
4. Press the latch upward. Do it very gently otherwise you could break the latch. When the latch is unlocked, try to open it with your hand.
5. Notice the keyboard screw. There are two screws that should be unscrewed.
6. After the screws are done, place your hand on the keyboard like the picture below. You should try to push the keyboard forward with your right hand and bring it upward with your left hand. Be careful when you bring upward your keyboard as the connection wire lies under the keyboard and it's really short . So don't pull it very close, that will tear the wire.
7. Place the keyboard like in the picture. Notice the connection wire.
8. Open the connection lock,
and gently pull the wire out.
9. Take the new keyboard, push back the connection wire. Lock the wire latch and place the keyboard on laptop like this.
10. Push the keyboard downward with a little force as you have to lock it between two tight hook. Tight up the screws.
11. Place the latch like this and bring it downward, lock it under the hooks.
And you are done. Now your new keyboard should be good to go. Good luck.
