I have a Compaq Presario F733AU Laptop. The following problem started two weeks ago.
Whenever I insert any kind of optical media the screen becomes blank. I have both XP and Windows 7 installed, but the results are same in both cases. The only difference is that in Windows 7, the screen becomes light blue (not blue screen of death).
The interesting fact is that any bootable disc boots successfully.
The model of my DVD drive is LG GSA-T20N.
Thanks in advance.

Why don't you try to just keep one OS in your laptop?
As for my research, your laptop is much compatible with windows XP, try to format it with windows Xp or try another one like Windows Vista, the major problem now is into your laptop, maybe the motherboard of your laptop is damaged, same problems with yours was encountered by my customers, I have just open the whole laptop, clean it, change the memory and boom it work smoothly. It's all about your motherboard and memory, try to contact your laptop technician regarding that matter.
Hope this will help.

Have you tried loading the discs in safe mode and does it work fine there? If it does you may have an application that is blocking the proper functionality of your optical drive. You also might want to update your optical drive's firmware to make sure it is compatible with your operating systems. Since bootable discs work, it may also just be the settings that handles the functionality of your optical drive. Try and see if such settings exist in your computer. If you have another known working optical drive, try that in your system and see if the same problem occurs.
