In the Internet architecture, the internal IP address range is in use for the private networks, which follow the rules set by RFC 1918 for IPv4 addresses, and RFC 4193 for IPv6 addresses. These IP addresses are for home and enterprise local area networks (LANs). These private IP addresses were originally defined to delay IPv4 address exhaustion.
