The Recovery Agent Certificate is a certification with an identifier of 1.3.1.311.3.4.1 in the field Enhanced Key Usage of all the certificates. The certificates are valid for recovery operations. EFS generates its certificates for the default recovery accounts: the domain account for the first domain and the local account for stand-alone systems. The default recovery certificates are present in the personal certificate store for the account. For recovering data, a valid recovery certificate and a private key should be there on the system.
