As we all know that excel has functions to calculate both the population standard deviation and the sample standard deviation. The population standard deviation is used for indicating whole population and uses following equation for its calculation:

where xis the average or statistical mean of the given set of values and nis the total number of values.

If the data set used is a sample of given population and not an entire population use a little modified onecalledsample standard deviation. Required equation for this is
