I left my Lenovo device as it was running Windows updates. On returning to my desk, I found that the computer was giving the following error: Lenovo system update error gathering user information. How to resolve this error?
Lenovo System Update Error Gathering User Information
The reason why this error might occur during a system update is not known. However, this error does occur and therefore has a workaround. The solution to this error, however, is a little technical.
First, remove all previous log files from your system. Click on Start->Run->Secpol.msc and disable System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing.
In C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\System Update\session\system\SSClientCommon add the following lines.
<OS>
<OSTVIA>WIN7-PRO.SP1</OSTVIA>
<OSeGatherer>
<Name>Windows 7 Professional</Name>
<ServiceRelease>Service Pack 1</ServiceRelease>
</OSeGatherer>
<OSPCDPackSpec>7.SP1</OSPCDPackSpec>
<OSQuest>Windows 7</OSQuest>
</OS>
