One of our sub network in the office has lost connection. The network icon on the system tray says, "Limited or No Connectivity".
I attempted to solve the problem, by checking all the cables in the switch where the problem occurs and the switch seems to be working fine. It took me almost two hours to figure it out, but it seems not to be working.
The switch is 8 port fast Ethernet. All the computers in that network are using Windows XP as operating system.
Anyone have an idea what the problem is?
Limited or No Connectivity on Subnetwork
Dear,
In network problem issue you should have to troubleshoot step by step.
-
Please turn off your firewall first. Check the cables is ok. In that case you change the cable with the working one , if the cable perform well so the cable is ok.
-
Change the switch port with the working one for check.
-
Check the IP subnet, if the IP belongs to the subnet and the setting is correct and the gateway IP is in the same subnet.
-
Ping the gateway IP, if you get a reply so that your physical connectivity is ok. If you get a reply form your gateway or in same series of IP, your checking is complete.
After completed the checking if you do not reach another subnet from your network so that the issue is routing.
Please do the following step by step and give a reply to me.
Thanks
Mamun

Limited or No Connectivity on Subnetwork
First check your cable or replace the cable, with some other cable and try to re connect. If that's not the problem then check your modem driver, whether it is working properly or not? And also try to update the driver. Then check the ports, where you are connecting the cable. Or change the port.
While connecting check the tune, in your landline handset. If it’s changing, then it means it’s connecting and configuring otherwise, there might be the problem of proxy.
Check your proxy and physical address by right clicking where you saw limited connectivity and fix it or else call your internet provider or troubleshoot it.

Thanks Mamum,
that was very well explained. I reconfigured the whole thing and it works fine now.
