To fix the above error-

  1. Go to control panel and then system and maintenance
  2. In that go to administrative tools and then services
  3. Right click on winches update service and then stop it
  4. Go to start and then you need to type %windir% and then click enter
  5. Find the software distribution folder and rename it

If you receive error code “8000FFFF” when installing a Windows Update in Windows Vista or Windows 7, try resetting the Windows Update components. Take a look at How to reset Windows Update components to learn how. After resetting, try installing the Windows Update again and see if it works. If it fails, try running the System File Checker utility.

Click “Start,” “All Programs,” “Accessories” then right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator.” In the command prompt window, type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. When it is finished, restart the computer and try installing the Windows Update again. If this doesn’t work, try renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder. Click “Start,” “Control Panel,” “System and Maintenance,” “Administrative Tools” then double-click “Services.”

Scroll down and look for the “Windows Update” service. Right-click on it and select “Properties.” Click “Stop” to stop the Windows Update service. After this, navigate to “C:\WINDOWS” then look for the “SoftwareDistribution” folder and rename it to something else. Go back to Services and start the Windows Update service. Restart your computer after this and try installing the Windows Update again.

Renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder will delete your history on the Windows Update site.
