I want a virtual Domain Controller for my Active Directory, but I am completely at a loss. What are the general practices and where do I have to start?

VMware or Microsoft can be chosen for your task. Pick up any software, and you can carry out the virtualization of DC. The general practices include the disabling of time synchronization, ceasing the taking of Snapshots, Disabling Disk Caches on DC, etc. Similarly, you should not clone the DC virtual machine and configuration of Fixed Hard, or Pass-through Disks should be done. And at all costs, do not pause a Virtual DC.
