By default, the Windows Update feature in the Microsoft Windows operating system is enabled. If you didn’t change anything in the operating system, there’s no need to turn this feature on because it is already activated from the beginning the first time you install the operating system.

As always, you can disable or turn this feature off if you don’t like checking for updates regularly or on a daily basis. Anyway, to turn this feature on or off, click “Start”, “Control Panel” then “Windows Update”. If you don’t see this, set view to “Small icons”. On the next screen, click “Change settings” on the left pane.

Next, under “Important updates” section, select “Install updates automatically (recommended)” from the dropdown list then click “OK”. This will enable or turn on Windows Update. To disable it, just select “Never check for updates (not recommended)”. When activating Windows Update, you can configure it whether to allow all users to install Windows Updates or only the administrators can install the updates.
