What is the big advantage of the Microsoft Open Technologies over the already existing Open Technologies?

Microsoft released their Open Technology subsidiary

 

With the recent announcement, Microsoft has finally heeded the callings of the open source community by launching an Open Technologies Subsidiary, which enables Microsoft to venture off in the unknown world (at least to them) of open source software solutions.

Even though this is a serious breakthrough and a win for the open source community, the news received mixed responses from the open source community as to whether Microsoft’s venture into this vast community of free intellectual ideas are of noble reasons or with some ulterior motives.

The company will be headed by Jean Paoli and he said that Microsoft has been systematically terrified of the open source community so in order to stay ahead, Microsoft created Open Technologies to remain competitive in the relative field of softwares.
