MIRC free substitute. Chat client

Hi there!

I was using mIRC to chat on IRC client. Now, a message popped-up saying  that I have consumed my free 30-day trial, so have to buy it for further usage. I was wondering if there are some open sources folks out there who shout about freedom.

Do they have anything like it?

Certainly.

There are some open source wonderful Messengers like Mirunda, Pidgin etc., these are unique because, they not only work for IRC but also on a variety of regular Messaging Systems like Gmail and Hotmail.

I tried to install Pidgin, but its not working for some GTK or something. The installer stops at the time it reaches "download GTK".

I don’t know your full problem, but you can also try "xchat”.  It is a very comprehensive and powerful tool, only targeted for IRC. Has a lot of similarities with mIRC, so it would be a good option and it is open source too.

Sorry for my earlier happy face. It's not free as you said! I thought you meant really free or does open source differ from being really free?

It gives me the same registration notice at the top, stating that I have 30 more days to register!

Ooops ! I forgot the Windows version of xchat is proprietary. I guess you are on MS Windows. You still have an option.

Built from the very source code of open source project xchat. This is the way open source prevents soft wares from being commercial from free.

Thanks! That’s a really nice job done there! I am really impressed. It looked better than the original one.
